The Underdog Society- Knox County Ohio Dog Rescue Group
We take in dogs in the following ways:
*come from local dog shelters that have medical needs,
*owner surrender dogs (with medical needs, or to prevent them from going to the shelter)
*dogs that are strays or found in less than desirable health with no one claiming ownership.
We are foster based, meaning that each dog in our rescue lives in a home with one of our volunteer foster parents. We do this for several reasons:
*This enables us to retain our funds for vet care instead of building, utility and staffing costs.
*It provides a safe and quiet environment for our dogs to recuperate from any medical treatment they have received.
*It allows us to socialize our dogs with a family environment and expose them to other dogs, cats, children, men, women etc so we can properly acclimate them to possible adoption scenarios.
*This also aids with any training the dog may require. (potty, jumping, boundaries)
Before a dog is ready for adoption, he/she is fully vetted with current vaccinations, is microchipped and spayed/neutered.
Once the vetting is complete, we solicit applications for the dog, check the potential adopters references including a vet check, complete a home visit, and then require a signed contract.
